It is with great sorrow and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Paula (Smith) Heiberg. Following an extended illness at her home, our beautiful mother transitioned to her heavenly home in the evening hours of December 22, 2025 at the age of 82. While we are sad to lose our matriarch, we take great comfort in knowing that she was received by all who went before her and were eagerly awaiting their glorious reunion.

Born on October 25, 1943 in Los Angeles, CA to the late James and Lorraine Smith, Paula was the oldest of three children; sisters Millie Levitt (deceased) and Toni Pratt (George) of Tyler, TX.

As our mother lived a life marked by her Catholic faith and her love for her family, there is no greater glory than to know that she is joyfully relishing in her reunion with her infant son Edward E. Peifer, who passed away at the young age of 2 in 1966. Mom is survived by children, Barbara Grano (Sal), Clarence ‘Art’ Peifer (Renee), James Peifer (Bobbie Jo), and William Cheesman (Elissa).

She was a proud grandmother to Kelli, Cody, Richard ‘RJ’, Matthew, Lauren, James Jr. ‘JJ’, Zachary, Edward, Tiffany, and Genevieve. Great grandmother to Kaleb, Miranda, Kailey, Hunter, Emerson, Reese, Kamden, and great-great grandmother to Piper. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Her love lives on in the countless memories she made for and with us, and though we grieve her absence, we are comforted in knowing her love will continue to guide us.

~A celebration of her life will take place at a later date, when those who loved her will come together in remembrance and gratitude.
