I think of Clay and I smile. He was a wonderful story-teller with a sense of humor that rivaled the great comedians. And he had such a sentimental side.... May he find love and peace in the next life. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Dear Madeleine and Ian, My heart is breaking for your family in your tremendous loss. I never met Clay but could feel the love through the stories shared by Madeleine. Great fathers and husbands are a rare breed in this harsh world - but it is truly a far better place with his brief presence in it. I know you will never stop missing him. He sounds like he was amazingly creative, kind, funny and sensitive. Great dad, great husband. Please know that I wish for you a sense of peace. Take care, -- Kathleen

I just heard of Clay's passing. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends. He was one of my "creative geeky" frends in school and thought we were rarely in contact over the years I cherish the memory of those days. Afternoons reviewing his homemade adventure comic books, swimming parties, theater, and many other memories of Clay were always filled with his particular brand of humor and fun. It looks like he stayed pretty much the same guy all these years. The world was certainly better for having him. I know I was. Rebecca

I was so sorry to hear of Clay's passing; it's hard to believe that the talented, great guy I shared a few classes in high school with is no longer with us. Madeline and Ian, you are in my prayers, and I hope that you find comfort in many wonderful memories of Clay and in the love of friends and family.

A rare, highly gifted and illuminated soul has passed from this world and I and many others that my good friend Clay McBride has touched in such profound ways will always value and cherish our time spent with this amazing man. We never know why anyone would be challenged with such a painful and debilitating disease but from my experience it seems like great souls sometimes reap the most challenging lifetimes and circumstances, but always in the process of dealing heroically with their challenges touch many hearts and inspire many souls to live a more rewarding and meaningful life. Thank you Clay for being my friend and for reminding all of us of what is most valuable and rare in life. Onwards and upwards my friend. Save a place for me for I know you're home and in the arms of love!! Keeping the faith!

Madeline & Ian --- I am so glad that I got to meet you both, and Clay, a couple of months ago. I could see why Clay meant so much to Jim and why they were such good friends all those years ago. Clay touched a lot of lives and he will be missed greatly. You both will be in my thoughts and prayers. Please feel free to call me or email me any time. I lost my husband when he was 42 and my son was 12, so I've walked the path and would be glad to lend an ear anytime you need to talk.

Even though you weren't my father, Mr. McBride, I always looked up to you and saw inspiration in your unparalleled strength, honesty, and courage. Your countless tales of intrigue and adventure have always been a template for me. I'd also like to thanks you for always being a fantastic host, keeping us rowdy teenage boys in check and fed, and even joining us for the occasional Halo match. You truly are a spirit of great courage, wisdom, strength, and joy, and you are an inspiration to all.

Clay always had a quick word of encouragement when it was needed, a funny quip when one was down to make them laugh, sarcasm to make you think, very kind eyes and a smile that that brightened everyone's day. Heartfelt sympathy for your loss to his wife, son, sisters and mum. Your loss is the greatest, but we all have loss without Clay.

I love you, Clay. I'll miss you more than most. We had great times. I know how much you loved the film, COOL HAND LUKE. This is for you, bud. Dragline: He was smiling... That's right. You know, that, that Luke smile of his. He had it on his face right to the very end. Hell, if they didn't know it 'fore, they could tell right then that they weren't a-gonna beat him. That old Luke smile. Oh, Luke. He was some boy. Cool Hand Luke. Hell, he's a natural-born world-shaker.

Our prayers and sincerest condolences to the both of you in these very difficult times. I have to tell you that my fondest memory of Clay was when we first met over dinner at your home. I knew he was a great Dad because Ian was such a great kid. But I can't remember much of what you and Chris talked about that day because when Clay and I started exchanging stories about our favorite 'Shogun Assassin' movies and anime and manga, I knew I had found a kindred spirit. He was smart, funny and made my adult 'geek side' feel like it wasn't alone in the world. That meant a lot to me. I'm sorry he was in so much pain but I'm sure he's up there now looking down on all of us with love...and urging me to watch some late night overseas action flick. I'll miss him.

I can only tell by how much Clay McBride's friend Sam loved him just how loving and memorable a person he was. And that is considerable. We, my husband John and I are so sorry for your loss and Sam's great loss. He seems so young to be taken and yet I feel he left only love and laughter for those he loved. And many loved him in return. Our blessings to you and to his memory. He will always live in your hearts.

Thank you Clay for being my friend for 36 years. Most friendships that old fade over time, but you never let that happen because that's the kind of person you were. You sent me more birthday cards, christmas gifts, tape letters, song lyrics, ... anything to keep our connection strong. You made me feel special and loved. Your smarts, creativity, and talent amazed me. You made me laugh and you liked making me laugh. Thanks for always looking out for me. You finished strong, my friend.
