Luis A. Arevalo Longtime Glendale resident Luis A. Arevalo passed away peacefully at his home on October 16, 2012. Luis was born in El Salvador in 1926 but moved to the Los Angeles area when he was 19 years old. Soon thereafter, he was enrolled at USC in architecture but was called for duty during the Korean war in the Army Corps of Engineers. During his service, he married his love and life for the next 61 years – Mary Arevalo. After the military, he finished his education at USC obtaining a B.S. and M.S. in Civil and Structural Engineering which eventually enabled him to open and maintain a successful engineering firm for many years with offices in Pasadena and San Diego. In 1956, he and Mary moved to Glendale where they settled, unto this day and raised 6 beautiful children – 4 girls – Maria, Isabel, Rosana and Mairena and 2 boys – Alberto and Ricardo. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren – 12 boys and 2 girls. Other than his passion for his family and engineering, Luis had a general love for life and adventure. He and Mary traveled the world with some of his favorite places being Spain, France, Italy and China. His incredible memory painted vivid pictures to friends and family when he conveyed the details of where he had been. His adventurous spirit led to such activities ranging from obtaining a pilot’s license to boating along the shores of Big Bear Lake. Despite all his successes, he is remembered by most as that smiling, happy and loving person who made you feel like his best friend and the most important person in the world. Throughout his lifetime, his kind soul provided pro-bono structural engineering services to friends, family and one priest in particular, Father Hagan for whom he did numerous buildings in Mexico. Rosary and Visitation will be on Sunday, October 21, 2012, 3-6 PM at Crippen Mortuary in La Crescenta, CA. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 22, 2012, 10:30 AM, at Holy Redeemer Church in Montrose, CA. Luis requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to The Cancer Support Community in Pasadena where both he and Mary were active participants and volunteers for the past 20 years.
