Donald Robert Burch
June 25, 1925 – December 16, 2012
Donald Robert Burch passed away December 16, 2012 at the age of 87. A long time local resident, Don lived in Sunland, CA for over 60 years. He will be remembered for his love of family, engaging sense of humor and famous ‘Blue’.
Don was a proud Republican, self-admitted Patriot and member of the NRA. He enjoyed waterskiing, snow skiing, weight training and boating. Whether it be a rivalry amongst friends or a sanctioned Drag boat race for #75, every activity was some sort of a competition. Most of all, he loved his family.
Don joined the Army Air Corp in 1944 and was in pilot training just as WWII ended. He went on to work in the motion picture industry for over 50 years and was a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
His favorite places to be were with his family and friends at the river, hunting in Colorado and spending time at the beach. He welcomed anyone into his home, his bar and his world with a cocktail and a smile.
Born in 1925 to Amelia and Frank Burch, his childhood was spent in Glendale, CA. Donald was the younger of two children. He was married in 1945 to Jacqueline until her death in 1969. They had two children, Susan and Nancy. He remarried in 1970 to Mary and had two daughters, Brandi and Amyanne.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, and daughters: Nancy Fauntleroy and husband Michael, Brandi Brotherton and husband Andy, Amyanne Freeburg and husband Brett, 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Smith, and grandson, Robert Easter.
Don loved his family and friends and was loved in return. He knew how to have fun. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His spirit will live on through our shared stories and laughter.
