Righteous Celebration
My name is Edgar Furtado. I am Anthony Roy’s younger brother. Roy and I were born a year apart. As children and teenagers Anthony Roy and I shared our lives from elementary school in Borivili and Mahim in Mumbai, India. Our lives and paths continued towards Mary Immaculate School and Don Bosco High School in Panjim Goa, India.
Roy was my steadfast friend. I will always Love my sweet Roy as I call him. I have fond memories of our early childhood years from Mumbai to Kuwait. There is nothing wrong in being poor. We grew up through poverty, strife and incredible sibling rivalries. We were not raised or loved by parents. Whatever Love we had for each other was shared among friends whom Anthony Roy took shelter and strength from.
Roy worked in Kuwait for more than a decade of his young adult life. During the Gulf War my brother Anthony Roy became a victim of the Gulf’s War games. As a Victim of Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait Roy suffered brutalities. By the time I got to see Roy once again in the United States he was already legally blind. Despite his disability my brother Roy worked hard enduring hardships and each milestone brought him closer to earning his green card and becoming a United States Citizen.
Roy’s disability did not prevent him from having his own business. Roy acquired fine culinary skills that he inherited from his mother Susan. (My mommy is not able to be here today as she is not mobile). Roy eventually came up with a very unique brand of Goan Sausages that have become a household name in the United States for Goan’s desiring to relish homemade sausages but this time with very high standards under the direct supervision of the United States Food and Drug Administration. Roy’s Sausage business was keenly monitored by US federal regulators while he was able to meet their standards.
Everyday of his living life my brother Roy woke up and travelled long hours to get to his work place using public transport as he was not able to drive and also because he wanted to make sure that his two precious children Nathan and Naomi have a better future than the one Roy left behind in Goa and his sweet wife Carol who has nurtured his friendship despite his shortcomings. Carol has been a great supporter and champion to my brother Anthony Roy from Kuwait all the way to Santa Clarita where Carol and Roy made a niche as American entrepreneurs into the catering business which became Roy’s and Carol landmark American dream.
When we are faced with times such as this, we thoughtfully reflect on the gift of life, it’s meaning, and realize how fleeting this life can be. We realize the importance of each day and we should cherish every moment to enjoy, experience, and learn from. To take full advantage of every opportunity to give of ourselves to those we love and those we meet, to look at the positives of life and not allow the daily challenges, our own shortcomings, or the indifferences of others to rob us of the greatest things in this life – the joy and strength of family and friendships, the thrill of discovery, the delight and reward of giving, the healing power of love, and above all - an intimate relationship with God our heavenly Father,
There are many things that could be expressed at a time like this but in truth, there is nothing more comforting, nothing that provide answers of peace, and there is not a greater healing reality than the True Word of God.
In the Old testament we read Numbers 23:19: God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? Or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
Once again in the New Testament we see it again in I Corinthians 15:20-26: But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order. Christ the first fruits; afterwards they that are Christ’s at his coming. Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
I Corinthians 15:51-57 (Read from KJV)
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible must put on incorruption and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written. Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting> O grave where thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
For us, life goes on. At the gathering together of the saints, the believers, those who have confessed with their mouth and have believed in their hearts that God hath raised him, Jesus Christ from the dead, will see Anthony Roy again. Until then, we move on, more committed and resolved to live life to its fullest. The life Anthony Roy stood for is wonderfully described in the next verse:
My brother Anthony Roy’s life stood for something, his efforts, contributions and labors were not in vain.
In the wonderful Psalm 116:15: - God is light and in Him is no darkness at all! “Precious” means costly and it has cost God and all of us a great deal and Anthony Roy’s contributions to our lives will be greatly missed.
The Word of God is true; the Word of God is faithful! What God has promised He is able and willing to perform. Our hope, the return of Jesus Christ is both sure and steadfast, therefore we need not be shaken or troubled, but, comforted and strengthened by the integrity and strength of God’s Wonder matchless Word and the comfort of our family and loved ones.
To close, my heart and believing for you is beautifully expressed in II Thessalonians chapter 2:
II Thessalonians 4:16-18:
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then, we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Wherefore, comfort one another with these words!
Prayer -

Today I was notified that my friend of more than 25 years has passed. To say I was shocked is an understatement; really hard to grasp Roy not being here anymore. While it may be our loss, it is Heaven's gain and I am sure he is at rest with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
I first met Roy around late 1991 or so, and under very unusual circumstances. Roy was riding his bicycle around the neighborhood in Midway City, CA, when he was jumped by a couple of young punks looking for trouble. They knocked him off his bike and beat him. Having sustained minor injuries, he sought medical attention at the local fire house - where I worked as a firefighter/EMT. As I was on duty at the time, I answered the knock at the front door and had him come inside. I provided first aid treatment and the rest was history. I found him to be most likable, friendly and in good spirits; from that point forward, we developed a close friendship - of which I am thankful for to this day. Roy had a kind heart and a really great sense of humor.
We spent a lot of time together in those early years. As he was without any transportation other than a bike, I took him places and we hung out and had a good time. I was fascinated by his time in Kuwait and the stories he told me. Eventually, he brought over the love of his life, Caroline, and they soon stated a family. While he moved away and had a new life, we kept in touch.
Thank you, Roy, for your friendship and all the laughs we had. I am very proud of all that you accomplished in life, for I know it was a tough time when I first met you. You have a great family, and forever will you be a part of their lives and in their hearts.
My sincerest condolences to his family. I will miss you my friend, rest easy........we will meet again. Love you Roy!
